Master woodcut artist Li Qun started his career in the early 1930s with his depictions of the suffering of the masses, exposing the dark side of society through his art. He adopted the style of social realism in his woodcuts and absorbed western techniques and transformed them into a pictorial language that resonated with the illiterate masses. Among Li's most famous woodcuts are "Spring Night", "Taihang Mountain Scenery" and "Guayeju". These woodcuts are part of the China National Museum of Arts collection.
